Three Generations of Dedication
Blue Mountain Farms’ roots trace back to 1952 when its founder, Chris Dornbierer, emigrated from Switzerland to New Jersey, where he started his first greenhouse business. In 1976, Chris relocated to New Ringgold, Pennsylvania, establishing Blue Mountain Farms as a cornerstone of the community. Chris and his wife raised two children, Steven and Helen, who both moved with the family to Pennsylvania. Helen, instrumental in the greenhouses from a young age, was joined by her future husband, Robert Miller, who also had a background in horticulture. In the summer of 1977, Robert and Helen were married and began building a family of four: Corrie, Andrew, Jonathan, and Benjamin.
In 1987, Chris retired, passing the reins to Robert, affectionately known as "Bob from Blue Mountain," who became the face of the farm. However, Bob didn’t manage the greenhouse alone—Helen’s steadfast support in operations and family life played a vital role. Their children grew up immersed in the business, contributing their time and talents. Corrie pursued a career in nursing while raising three children, continuing to live locally and staying connected to the family legacy. Ben, now an airline pilot based in Louisville, KY, also remains tied to the family’s roots.
Jonathan and Andrew, inspired by their parents' and grandparents’ dedication, chose to make the greenhouse their life’s work. In January 2021, Bob retired, officially passing the business to Jonathan and Andrew. Both have established their own families within a stone’s throw of the farm, ensuring the legacy continues.
Today, as Jonathan and Andrew take the lead, they aim to carry forward the same love, commitment, and dedication to the business, employees, and customers that Chris instilled when he first founded Blue Mountain Farms in 1976.
